Four things we’ve learned from our dog Vanda

Published Categorized as english

If there is only one thing what we have learned in living in Croatia, than it is the force to accept the vulnerability and brokenness and embrace it.

Brokenness in buildings, in people’s lives, in relations, and in many other aspects.

One example of that brokenness was also visible in our dear dog: Vanda. We adopted her from the local animal shelter a few years ago. Her condition got worse in the last few months, we have pushed it to the end, but the day came that we had to part. Although we have been very sad, we are also at peace that she is now without pain.

Four things we’ve learned from Vanda:

1. Unconditional love.

2. Overcome fear.

3. Accepting the difficulties of life.

4. Total trust in us.

A Bridge Called Love

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier sunlit days
and to precious moments
that will be with us always.

And these fond recollections
are treasured in the heart
to bring us always close to those
from whom we had to part.

There is a bridge of memories
from Earth to Heaven above…
It keeps our dear ones near us
It’s the bridge that we call love.

A question for you: What did you learn from an animal?

  1. Thank you for your post, Janneke. Animals give us so much love. They don’t judge us but just love us. I love it when my cat chooses to be with me when I’m sitting in a chair or on the lounge. She gives me company just be being with me.
    – May I not judge others but love them
    – May I give love by just being there and keeping in touch with others

    I’m sorry for your loss
